Wake up call

I gained weight!!!!

I know exactly where I went wrong. Let's see, it was the halfhearted workouts, the incessant snacking, the outside eating, that last one messed up my calorie bank and my financial budget. Still, it hurt to get the usual speaking to from my personal trainer. I needed to hear it, and it's precisely why I am paying him.

It's too easy to lie to oneself, you know. To say, well, i gained a pound, it's because it's that time of the month. I gained five pounds, well my pants still fit so it doesn't really matter, or the ultimate, i gained 10 pounds, what's the use, let's just give in and eat that cake. (oooh cake, i love cake but I digress).

Anyway, I am determined to get back on track. A pair of Gianni Bini shoes are at stake here, and also these neon Target wedges. I am taking my jogging seriously, even doing the ultimate no no for me, working out in the evening. I hate evening workouts on my own. I always find an excuse not to partake, however, it's a war right now on these here pounds so I'm willing to do whatever it takes.

I refuse to lose, well, in this case, I agree to lose, lol.

Later.

working and the medical student.

Somehow I've become a writer who can't seem to bring herself to write. Okay, so to answer a question posed by bijouxoxo ten thousand years ago. Is possible to work and attend medical school? My biased answer is hell no. Do it at your peril. Medical school is all consuming. It's a jealous beast that wants the student's mind, heart, time, life. That's my word. There's just so much to learn and so little time in the day. Medical schools are trying to improve quality of life by shortening class hours but nevertheless we still spend at least 6 hours per day in class. Enough analysis, let me break it down but keep in mind that every school is different. First Year, first semester: My courses were Anatomy (time consumer), Biochemistry, Genetics, Nutrition, Physicians Patients & Society (PPS, discussing how to be a doc, ethics, customs, etc, luckily only once a week but two hours long, in the afternoon), Longitudinal Preceptor Program(LPP; follow a doctor for 2 yea...

Ojo Monday

As I opened  blogger to write a post, the song ojo Monday jumped to my head. I mourned my unbacked up and crashed ibook immediately. I have so much music that I've lost. I haven't heard that song since 200something. I didn't even remember who did it which is a damn shame cos am a Fela stan. Anyway, rushed to Youtube to find it. They didn't have it, but there is a band called Ogun Afrobeat that did a pretty decent cover considering they don't even speak the language. Turned out it's called by its English name: Monday morning in Lagos: Anyway, all that to say it's Ojo Wednesday and I hope I survive. I worked out yesterday with my trainer. My arms are looking nice per him and me. Am still a bit weak though as in, I don't have much stamina for certain exercises. Anyway, time is already fast spent. I have to go for my jog and yet again I didn't edit my playlist. Why do i procrastinate so! PS. Turns out that I do have that song, must have bac...

Pinterest Cookbook: Recipe 2 -Cannellini & Cabbage Soup

Source: fitnessmagazine.com via oluyemisi on Pinterest This turned out to to be very easy to make, and quite delicious too. Of course I modified the recipe. I added onions to the cabbage, carrots and garlic mix and sauteed that with black pepper and curry. I was generous with the black pepper because it is freezing out here and I need to warm up. Also, I'm battling a bit of congestion.  I used a mix of beans, garbanzo and cannellini, and also added tomatillo and celery. I think I was too generous with the tomato paste, I had a can that I had opened for the black bean chili so I wanted to be done with it so it wouldn't be a waste. It took no time at all to cook, I made this after work on Monday, and it was good and filling and comforting especially after the hectic day that I had.
